Effective August 1, 2026, the California Secretary of State requires users filing a Statement of Information through its bizfile Online system to have authorized access to the applicable entity’s online record.

The new procedure is part of the Secretary of State’s enhanced User Access Controls, which are intended to protect business records against unauthorized or fraudulent filings. It does not change when a Statement of Information is due, but it adds an access-verification step to the online filing process.

Businesses should take the following steps before their next filing deadline:

  1. Create an account through the California Secretary of State’s bizfile Online system.
  2. Locate the entity’s online record and request access.
  3. Complete the PIN verification process before authorizing additional users.

Because receiving a PIN or obtaining approval from an existing authorized user may take additional time, businesses should begin the access process well in advance of their next Statement of Information filing deadline to avoid delays or disruptions.

Please contact us with any questions regarding the new procedure or assistance with your entity’s California filings.
