HechtSolberg is expanding its deeply rooted Common Interest Developments (CID) Practice with the return of John Hecht, whose imprint is found in the structures of master-planned communities throughout Southern California. In addition, the CID group includes junior partner David J. Vogel and law clerk/real estate specialist Christina Morgan, with senior paralegal Elizabeth Borg completing the team.
John Hecht rejoined the firm as “of counsel” after retiring in 2011. His career has spanned the heyday of master-planned community development, starting with the precedent-setting communities of Rancho Bernardo and Laguna Niguel, and creating governance frameworks for Rancho del Rey, Liberty Station, Carmel Mountain Ranch, Bressi Ranch and Scripps Ranch Villages. As a mentor of the CID team, Hecht will advise and oversee the structures and overall concepts of common interest developments.
“Frankly, the idea of participating in the next wave of real estate development in San Diego, which will center on infill and mixed-use development, is more exciting than retirement,” says Hecht, who in 1973 first joined the firm that bears his name.
Hecht will be joined by David Vogel, who started his career with the firm in 2010 and complements his practice with his active involvement in the Building Industry Association (BIA) of San Diego’s Y-Gen council, as a current BIA Cares board member, and participation in NAIOP. Vogel earned his Juris Doctor from King Hall School of Law at the University of California, Davis, and earned his bachelor’s degree from Stanford University.
Mickey Maher, managing partner at HechtSolberg, remarked that Vogel “brings a valuable perspective from other disciplines and a wide scope of practice in transactions and finance that will serve our clients well in CID matters.”
Christina Morgan, who is a candidate for Juris Doctor at the University of San Diego School of Law, joined HechtSolberg in July. She has extensive experience working with homebuilders and developers, with special expertise working with the California Bureau of Real Estate (BRE). Most recently, she was a real estate specialist with Dentons US (formerly McKenna, Long & Aldridge LLP and Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps LLP). She has also been affiliated with Chicago Title Company and Dixieline Lumber Company.
“We are ecstatic to welcome a professional – and future attorney – with Christina’s understanding, aptitude and experience in real estate,” said Maher. “Christina has already been involved in the governance and structuring of numerous Southern California communities, including San Elijo Hills, Civita, Del Sur, La Costa, and Otay Ranch. She adds meaningful depth and breadth to our team.”
Morgan is actively involved in the California Building Industry Association (CBIA) and its Bureau of Real Estate Committee, the BIA of San Diego, and the San Diego County Bar Association. She was a finalist in the “Best Builder Associate” category in the 2012 Icon Awards, sponsored by the BIA of San Diego. Morgan earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from the University of California, San Diego.
The CID Practice team also includes Elizabeth Borg, who for 25 years has provided stability and consistent support for the Common Interest Developments group. A senior paralegal, Borg has a broad expertise in homeowners associations and complex title, due diligence and feasibility matters. Borg has worked on numerous planned developments, condominium communities, mixed-use developments, high-rise CID projects, standard subdivisions, apartments and commercial properties, and master-planned communities, including Calavera Hills, StoneBridge, 4S Ranch, San Miguel Ranch, Rancho del Rey, Scripps Ranch Villages, NTC, Windingwalk, Torrey Hills and Bressi Ranch.
Borg is active in the CBIA and its Bureau of Real Estate Committee. She graduated Cum Laude from California State University San Marcos with a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences.
